Established with a vision to make a difference, Evelyn’s Closet has been dedicated to supporting those in need. Over the years, we have created a positive impact by providing quality, recycled clothing and connecting individuals with essential services. As a clothing recycling hub, we focus on serving those most vulnerable—particularly individuals affected by cancer and the elderly—who often face barriers to accessing basic necessities. By addressing the social determinants of health, we strive to improve the well-being of those battling poverty and illness, ensuring they receive more than just clothing, but also hope and support. Our mission is to provide sustainable fashion solutions while offering dignity and support to underserved communities.
Our Story
Evelyn’s Closet is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing sustainable clothing and holistic support to those in need and rooted in the legacy of Evelyn M. Wood, a remarkable woman whose generosity, resilience, and commitment to community continue to inspire our mission. A single mother of eight, Evelyn spent her life in Southeast Washington, D.C., selflessly supporting not only her own family but also her neighbors in need. Her spirit of care and empowerment lives on through Evelyn’s Closet, where we provide sustainable, quality clothing to underserved individuals with dignity and compassion.

Our Founder
Shantie Morgan, the founder of Evelyn’s Closet. The driving force behind this work, which is deeply personal and rooted in being a native of Washington, DC. I had the privilege of being raised around my grandmother, Evelyn. She was a remarkable woman, her love, wisdom, and strength shaped our family into who we are today.
However, Ms. Morgan was faced with challenges that sometimes felt insurmountable. There were times when barriers seemed to arise at every turn, moments when trauma threatened to overwhelm her, and yet, her grandmother’s love and faith gave her the courage to persevere. Through every hardship, she found the strength to push forward, to create something meaningful from my experiences. Evelyn’s Closet was born out of that spirit. It’s more than just an initiative to provide for others, it’s a living tribute to my grandmother’s legacy and the love she imparted.
